Bras d'Or Yacht Club Membership
If you are an avid sailor, if you enjoy great racing, or perhaps you're just getting your wings and prefer a more leisurely pace, you'll find a welcome home at the Bras d'Or Yacht Club. We also have many members with power boats who enjoy the wonderful cruising grounds of the Bras d'Or Lakes. In between boats, or haven't bought your first one yet, that's alright too. Everyone is welcome at BYC. Come and join us in the friendly atmosphere of the upper lounge, or take in the vista of the beautiful Bras d'Or from our balcony that faces Benn Breigh.
Our Learn to Sail program is one of the best on Cape Breton Island. We host several regattas throughout the summer, our most famous regatta, now in its 107th year, is a week long celebration of sailing in the waters off the shores of Baddeck.
We are much more than a yacht club and open our doors to our entire community. Music, parties, celebrations, meetings, fitness classes, craft shows, dances, benefits, auctions, all take place at the Bras d'Or Yacht Club all through the year. These kinds of events, along with the many sailing and recreational programs we run are entirely built on volunteer hours. Every member has an opportunity to get involved, make new friends, let your talents shine.
Benefits of Membership
A variety of benefits is what makes membership at Bras d'Or Yacht Club valuable.
Access to the club wharf and the club launch ramp – no fees.
Access to water, power, & showers – no fees.
Winter boat storage at preferred rates.
Rental of the lower hall at preferred rates.
Many social events at BYC are free to members. Where fees are required, we have a dual pricing structure for members and non-members, including our Learn to Sail program.
Members are entitled to credit privileges at the bar.
Members have voting privileges at club meetings, one vote per membership.
Memberships are valid from January 1st to December 31st of each year.
Membership Categories
We currently offer two types of membership at BYC:
Regular Membership which affords equal rights to the Member of Record, his/her spouse, and includes children under the age of 19.
Intermediate Membership for young people between the ages of 19 and 25 who no longer qualify under their family's membership.
