Bras d'Or Yacht Club Cruising Program
The Bras d'Or Lakes are generally considered to be the finest cruising waters in the world. People come from many different countries every year to visit the historic Baddeck Harbour and to explore the beautiful waters of the Bras d'Or.
In 2011, Baddeck played host to the Ocean Cruising Club during early July as they prepared to make passage to Newfoundland. They were in the Baddeck Harbour for a week and provided a great opportunity for visitors to come down to the club, check out the boats, meet the sailors, and make some dreams of their own.
In 2012, Baddeck is hosting the Cruising Club of America, founded here in the Bras d'Or Lakes, in Maskell's Harbour, at the behest of William Washburn Nutting, FW (Casey) Baldwin, and Gilbert Grosvenor (son-in-law of Dr. Alexander Graham Bell), with two Cape Breton yachts, the Elsie, and the Typhoon, in the original fleet.
The Highlight of the cruising season at BYC is the Slow Slow Poker Run held 2 weeks after Regatta Week. Everyone is welcome on this day long adventure around the lakes from point to point where poker cards are handed out and the winner announced back at the club with a BBQ and great celebration.
